Football concludes season with tight 20-14 loss at Taylor University

(Upland, IN) - Concordia football traveled to Taylor University on Saturday afternoon to wrap up their season.  The Cardinal defense held the Trojans' explosive offense in check for most of the game, but the team fell 20-14 in a close contest.

Colby Kohmescher threw for 110 yards while leading the rushing attack with 54 yards and a touchdown.  Seeger DeGayner led receivers with 63 yards while also adding a rushing touchdown.

On defense, Ethan Burrows led the team with 13 tackles.  Liam Karry finished second with 12 tackles.  Chase Maynard came in third with eight tackles.

Concordia received the opening kickoff to begin the game.  The Cardinals put together a 12-play, 75-yard drive on their opening series with Seeger DeGayner scoring a 5-yard rushing touchdown.  CUAA maintained a 7-0 lead after the first quarter.

Taylor tied the game with a touchdown drive midway through the second quarter.  The Trojans added a late field goal and led 10-7 at halftime.

Taylor extended their lead with another touchdown in the third quarter.  The Cardinal defense battled back to keep the game close and CUAA trailed 17-7 after three quarters.

The Trojans tacked on a field goal to start the fourth quarter.  The Cardinals responded with a 12-play, 69-yard scoring drive to pull within one possession.  A major highlight of the drive was a fake punt pass from Dean Mason to Seeger DeGayner that went for a 31-yard gain down the sideline.  Colby Kohmescher capped the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run.

After a stop by the Cardinal defense, the offense had one more possession as they looked to take the lead.  However, a pass on the fourth down was short of the line to gain and led to a turnover on downs.  Taylor was able to run out the clock and escape with a 20-14 win.
