(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) have announced their weekly Players of the Week and Davion Coats and Caiden Thomas took home defensive and special teams honors for the MSFA Mideast, while Coats also earned NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week.
Coats, a freshman from Pontiac, Michigan, scored in his third straight game as he made it into the endzone twice. His first score of the day came off a block field goal that he returned 66 yards. His second touchdown was a "pick-6" and returned for 27 yards. The true freshman also recorded four tackles and one pass breakup.
Thomas, a sophomore from New Baltimore, Michigan, tallied a career-high 12 points in the win over Madonna on Saturday. Thomas made his first three field goals, with a long of 35, and was perfect on the day in extra points going 6-for-6.
Coats and Thomas are the first players this season to take home MSFA honors, while Coats joins fellow Cardinal Liam Karry to win NCCAA Defensive Player of the Week.
The Cardinal football team will be back in action this Saturday when they host Siena Heights for a 1 PM kickoff.
