Trojans top Cardinals with hot second half

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia returned to action Tuesday night after a win over (RV) Siena Heights Saturday night. The Trojans from Taylor would be their midweek matchup, coming into the contest with a 4-2 record. Despite an early lead, Taylor would take advantage of efficient shooting and win by a 21 point margin.

Concordia was led by Emmanuel Dominguez with 16 points and 3 assists. Three other starters would break double digits in Paul Zysk (12), Jerald Booker (11), and Jordan Winowiecki (10).

Paul Zysk scored three straight buckets to open the game, but Taylor matched that with hard fought offensive rebounds on the other side of the court. The Trojans first took the lead following two triples, but it was short lived as Emmanuel Dominguez hit one of his own and Greg Alexander sank a step back shot from deep. Taylor began to pick away at the Cardinal defense, finding the open man off of ball screens and creating a small lead. The aforementioned lead would remain minimal thanks to Concordia's defense creating turnovers including one by Jerald Booker which led to a transition dunk from Zysk. Concordia's shots began to not fall as often and the lead crept to 14 for the Trojans. It was Jordan Winowiecki that pulled the Cards back into the game with a quick six points in various forms and made it a six point deficit at the half.

Taylor opened up the second half with four straight which led head coach Ricky Yahn to call a timeout. Following the timeout the Cardinals put up four points of their own with one score coming from another Booker to Zysk exchange leading to a dunk. Tyler Black came in and scored four to bring it within four, but that lead quickly evaporated in the ensuing minutes as it became an 11 point game with 10 remaining. Booker took matters into his own hands, trying to claw the Cardinals back into it, but his four points were quickly answered. The Trojan lead grew to 20 and a margin which the Cardinals would not be able to overcome as the game ended 69-91.

Next up for the Cards will be a conference matchup against Lawrence Tech. Tip off will be at 3:00 this Saturday in Southfield, MI.
