(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia men's basketball traveled to Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC conference tilt. The Cardinals entered 9-18 overall with a 5-12 WHAC record while the Warriors came in 17-10 overall and 13-4 in the WHAC. Both teams traded leads throughout the game, but Indiana Tech was able to pull away midway through the 2nd half to earn a 61-49 win.
Emmanuel Dominguez led Concordia with 12 points in the game, going 4-7 from behind the arc. Bernard Kasanda finished second with 11 points. Jerald Booker was third on the team with 7 points. Jordan Winowiecki led the team with 9 rebounds while chipping in 4 points.
Bernard Kasanda made a layup for Concordia's first points in the game. Another drive by Kasanda off a long pass from Paul Zysk gave the Cardinals an early 4-3 lead. Emmanuel Dominguez knocked down a 3-pointer to put his team up 7-5 at the 15:05 mark.
Bernard Kasanda continued to pace the Concordia offense early with a pair of layups and a triple, giving the Cardinals a 14-7 advantage. Jordan Winowiecki converted a layup in the post, but a 12-0 Indiana Tech run put the Warriors ahead 21-16.
Paul Zysk scored 5 straight CUAA points with a pair of layups and a free throw in the final minutes of the 1st half. The Cardinals headed to the locker room trailing 23-21.
Jerald Booker made a quick layup to tie the game just 9 seconds into the 2nd half. Booker added an offensive putback to tie the game again, and a 3-pointer from Emmanuel Dominguez put the Cardinals ahead 29-28 at the 15:14 mark.
Emmanuel Dominguez remained hot from behind the arc, draining two more triples to keep Concordia ahead. Thomas Hronis added a layup while falling down to the ground, giving CUAA a 37-34 lead with 11:19 remaining.
After the Warriors retook the lead, Hronis drilled a deep 3-pointer to put Concordia ahead 40-39. However, Indiana Tech used a 13-1 run to build a 52-41 lead with 5:39 left to play.
Paul Zysk ended the Warriors' run with a layup. Baskets from Jerald Booker and Jordan Winowiecki pulled the Cardinals within 7 points with a 54-47 deficit at the 2:59 mark.
Matt Lockhart added a late layup, but the Warriors closed the game on a 7-2 run to claim a 61-49 win.
Concordia will return home on Wednesday, February 19 when the team hosts Madonna in WHAC conference play. Tip-off is set for 8pm following the conclusion of the women's game.
