Saints comeback against Cardinals for 75-72 win

(Adrian, MI) Concordia hit the road for one last test before CIT as the Cardinals competed against Siena Heights, a team who they had beaten at the beginning of WHAC play this season. This go around, the Saints were able to come back in the second half with a 75-72 victory. Jordan Winowiecki and Bernard Kasanda led the Cardinals on Saturday with 15 and 12 points respectively.

The game started off in a gridlock for the first several minutes until Concordia went on an eight point run off of back to back threes by Thomas Hronis and Emmanuel Dominguez. The Cards maintained around a five point lead for the remainder of the first half thanks to another three from Dominguez and layups from several different Cardinals.

Concordia expanded upon their lead at the beginning of the second half in large part to Bernard Kasanda. The point guard scored a quick seven points in the opening minutes of the half and gave the Cardinals a lead as large as 13. Jordan Winowiecki hit a pair of threes to increase the lead to 14, but then the Saints mounted a comeback. Winowiecki would go on to hit another three, but the Saints were slowly able to claw their way back into the game. It wasn't until 42 seconds remained that the game was tied by the Saints at 72. Siena Heights capitalized on their momentum and tacked on three more points in the final moments. Concordia looked to Jerald Booker in their last few possessions, but the Saint defense stood firm to hold on to their three point win.

Next up for the Cardinals will be (RV) Concordia-Nebraska at the 69th annual Concordia Invitational Tournament. Tip off will be at 4:15 pm EST in Chicago next Friday.
