Cardinals fall at Lourdes

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia men's basketball traveled to Lourdes on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC conference matchup. The Gray Wolves came into the game with an 8-3 overall record and a 4-1 mark in conference play. CUAA hung with Lourdes throughout the contest, but the Gray Wolves maintained their lead in a 78-65 lead.

Paul Zysk led Concordia with 13 points in the game. Jordan Winowiecki finished second with 12 points while tying Greg Alexander with a team-high 4 rebounds. Tyler Black was also in double figures with 11 points.

Jerald Booker made a layup to begin scoring in the game. Lourdes responded with a 9-0 run until Greg Alexander scored to break the scoring drought. 3-pointers from Tyler Black and Greg Alexander pulled the Cardinals within 4 points, making the score 15-11 at the 12:48 mark.

A pair of triples from Jordan Winowiecki cut the deficit to just 2 points, making the score 21-19 with 9:06 remaining in the 1st half. Paul Zysk made a pair of layups and Winowiecki tied the game 26-26 with a 3-pointer at the 5:20 mark.

Lourdes responded with a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead. Another pair of layups from Paul Zysk pulled CUAA within 5 points and the Cardinals trailed 35-30 at halftime.

Paul Zysk made a layup to open scoring in the second half. A 15-5 run by Lourdes pushed the Gray Wolves back to a double-digit advantage with a 48-37 lead at the 15:00 mark. Greg Alexander knocked down a jumpshot to end the run.

Emmanuel Dominguez banked in a shot off the high glass and Tyler Black made a basket to pull Concordia within 5 points with a 48-43 score. The Gray Wolves responded with a 7-0 run, but Thomas Hronis countered with a 3-pointer.

Hronis added a layup and Tyler Black made a pair of free throws as the Cardinals continued to attempt a comeback. Jordan Winowiecki was fouled shooting a 3-pointer and made all three free throws to pull CUAA within 12 points at the 2:35 mark.

Emmanuel Dominguez drew contact while making a layup to cut the deficit to 73-63 with 2:13 remaining. Concordia's full court press forced multiple turnovers in the final minutes, but the Cardinals were unable to convert on some of their opportunities. Lourdes was able to hold on for the 78-65 win.

Concordia will remain on the road for their next game on Saturday, December 14 at the University of Northwest Ohio. Tip-off is set for 3pm following the conclusion of the women's game.
