(Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia men's basketball traveled to Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon for their final regular season game. The Golden Eagles entered with a 17-11 overall record and an 11-8 mark in the WHAC conference. CUAA stayed competitive with Cornerstone early in the contest, but the Golden Eagles pulled away for an 89-67 win, finishing the Cardinals' 2019-20 season.
Greg Alexander led the Cardinals with 13 points in the game. Jerald Booker and Jordan Winowiecki tied for second with 11 points apiece. Paul Zysk had a team-high 13 rebounds along with 4 points.
Jordan Winowiecki drained a 3-pointer for Concordia's first basket of the game. Jerald Booker knocked down a triple and Thomas Hronis drained a triple and a jumper as the lead continued to change hands. A reverse layup from Matt Lockhart tied the game 13-13 at the 13:58 mark.
After 5 straight points from Cornerstone, Thomas Hronis made a deep 3-pointer to keep the game close. Greg Alexander drilled a triple and a pair of free throws to cut the team's deficit to 23-21 with 9:12 left to play.
Jordan Winowiecki made a reverse layup and Tyler Black drove to the basket with quick scoop shot. However, the Golden Eagles surged to a double-digit lead with a 35-25 advantage at the 5:32 mark. Matt Lockhart used a shifty move to score late in the half, but Cornerstone led 47-30 at halftime.
Emmanuel Dominguez started a 10-2 Concordia run with a triple to begin the 2nd half. Jordan Winowiecki added a triple and both Jerald Booker and Greg Alexander make quick drives to the basket. Another 3-pointer from Winowiecki pulled the Cardinals within 7 points, making the score 51-44 at the 15:54 mark.
Cornerstone responded with an 8-0 run until Greg Alexander drained a triple. The Golden Eagles used an 8-2 run to take a 67-49 lead with 11:16 to go.
Jerald Booker stopped the run with a pair of free throws. Emmanuel Dominguez and Tyler Black knocked down 3-pointers as the half went on. Greg Alexander chipped in a triple as well and Black used a floater to score in the lane.
Emmanuel Dominguez added another triple with 1:10 left to play, but Cornerstone secured the 89-67 win as time expired.
