Cardinals set to compete in WHAC Bowling Championship

(Clinton Township, MI) The Cardinal men's and women's bowling teams will head to Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township, Michigan, this weekend for the 2021 WHAC Championships. The tournament set up goes as follows: 16 Baker games bowled by each team. The top four teams will then proceed to the head to head semifinals, consisting of 5 Baker games. The final two teams will then bowl an additional 5 Baker games with the WHAC Tournament Champion declared by the most total pins knocked down in the final match.

 

Women's Bowling

 

The Cardinals took fifth place in the WHAC Tournament Championship a year ago, and are looking to improve upon that finish. Concordia currently sits at fourth in the league standings with a total of 54 points. The Cardinals placed second in the most recent of the four WHAC Jamborees, and will hope to crack the top four to make the second round of the conference tourney. Lawrence Tech sits atop the conference tables with 68 points on the season.

 

Makayla Lancioni earned Second Team All-WHAC last season and is currently third in the WHAC in pins per game with 197.33. Gabriella Van Horn also cracked the top ten average scores with 188.5 pins per game. Kaylee Johnson averaged the 14th best score in the WHAC with 182.5 pins. Alyvia Hock and Amanda Fisher come in next with averages of 177.38 and 173.3 respectively. Shannon Geiger, Hunter Jones, and Emily Morris provide the Cardinals with a solid source of scoring as well.  

 

Men's Bowling

 

Last season the Cards placed fifth in the WHAC Championships with Korey Reichard receiving Freshman of the Year and First Team All-WHAC honors and Brendan Gossman earning Second Team All-WHAC. This season the Cardinals come into the tournament at fourth place in the conference standings with 43 points. The team has finished as high as second in this season's WHAC Jamborees. Lawrence Tech is also first on the men's side of things with 71 points through the four conference competitions.

 

The Cardinals have three bowlers who are averaging among the top-12 in the WHAC currently. Brendan Gossman is averaging 208.55 pins per game, the sixth best average in the conference. Korey Reichard is knocking down 203.33 pins per game, making him 10th in the WHAC. Kyle Lewis is not far behind in 12th with a 202.08 average. Glenn Rose has bowled 11 games for the Cardinals and averaged 168 pins per game. Jayce Sauve, David Smalls, and Patrick Good round out Concordia's team averaging 221, 195.83, and 175.57 pins respectively.

 

Next up for Concordia will be the Raider Classic on March 6th.
