Men's bowling takes 2nd place at WHAC Bowling Championship

(Clinton Township, Mich.) – The men's bowling team competed in the WHAC Bowling Championships on Saturday afternoon. The championship event was hosted by Lawrence Tech as they were the regular season winners and took place at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township. The Cardinals put their best foot forward losing to Indiana Tech in the championships match to finisher runner-up.

 

The event featured four baker sets with the top four teams advancing to a bracket style tournament. The Cardinals posted a 3388 after the four game baker set to find themselves in second place. The Cardinals trailed only Indiana Tech by 322 pins. The Cardinals recorded their highest total in baker set three with an 884.

 

 In the championship bracket the Cardinals earned the two seed and went up against the third seed LTU. The Cardinals took the first set 213-201 and narrowly took the second set in a tie-breaker scenario. The Cardinals eventually swept the Blue Devils advancing to the championship round.

 

The Cardinals faced off against the top seeded Warriors of Indiana Tech in the championship round. The Warriors took the first set 190-184 to take the early advantage. Indiana Tech cruised in the second set, 244-200. The Cardinals put a fight in the third set but eventually fell 253-247.

 

The WHAC announced their all-conference awards at the event and Brenden Gossman and Korey Reichard earned second team-all conference honors. Gossman averaged a 208.55 while Reichard posted a 203.33 average in the previous WHAC jamborees to put them among the top 10 among conference bowlers.

 WHAC honors athletes through the All-Academic team for those student-athletes of junior academic status having atleast a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Qualifying for the Cardinals this season were; Nick Althouse and Glenn Rose Jr.

 

The WHAC prioritizes the NAIA's core values of respect, integrity, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership. In celebration of these core values the WHAC honors representatives from each sport that epitomize these core values and their respective institutions. Brenden Gossman was named Concordia's recipient of the Champions of Character.
