[Ann Arbor, MI] — The Concordia Cardinals Men's Golf team will open up their fall season on September 1-2 on the road at the Indiana University East Fall Invitational. The team will then be hosting the Cardinal Classic Invitational on September 18-19 where they will host several teams at the Washtenaw Golf Club.
Head coach Kelly Kristy enters her second season with the team hoping to improve on the momentum that the team created last season.
"We've added players to the rosters on both the mens and womens teams and I'm looking forward to testing our abilities this season," said coach Kristy when discussing the outlook for both the men's and women's golf teams.
Coach Kristy also discussed the two teams individually, stating of the men's team "With four freshmen being added to the men's roster, our team will be much deeper than last year. We have tremendous potential, and our goal is to climb up our conference leaderboard."
Team Personnel
The Cardinals are retaining a large part of their core from last season. Leading the way are upper-classmen Neil Heinlein, Gibson Wilke, and Andrew Sweitzer (all Jr). Heinlein set the school record for the lowest three-day score at 229 and was also part of the team when the record was set for the lowest three-day team score at 945.
Concordia is also bringing back four sophomores for this season. These four second year players are Chase Temple, Zakary Schroeder, Jack Kallsen, and Nicholas Goldie. Temple broke and set two records last season as a freshman and will look to continue his momentum this season. Schroeder also had a nice freshman season and will look to improve even further in his second season.
The Cardinals will be adding four freshmen to the mix, who are Brady Baldwin, Cam Barrett, Dylan Ladmirault, and Nate Oriel.
Team Season Highlight
Neil Heinlein wasn't the only one who broke and set records this past season, as Chase Temple made his own Cardinals history with program low scores after one round and after two rounds (68 and 145, respectively).
The team itself made numerous finishes in the school's record books as they had multiple top-10 finishes with respect to low one round team scores, low two round team scores, and low three round team scores.
2023 Fall Schedule
Concordia will begin their tour through the fall schedule on September 1-2, as they will travel to the IU East Fall Invitational for their first match of the season. They will return home to host the Cardinal Classic Invitational on September 18-19 where they will be hosting at the Washtenaw Golf Club. The team will then round out September the following week with the WHAC Fall Preview (September 25-26) and the Lawrence Tech University Fall Invite (September 29th).
The Cardinals will close out their fall schedule with the Spring Arbor Tournament on October 9th and the Harbor Shores Intercollegiate on October 16-17.
Concordia will then prepare for their spring season, which will be announced at a later date.
