Men's Golf competes at the WHAC Fall Preview

(Augusta, MI) - The Men's Concordia Cardinals Golf team competed at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Fall Preview on Monday and Tuesday. 

 

The event would feature one round of stroke play to determine seeding for the 12 conference teams before being split up into groups of four for two rounds of match play. 

 

STROKE PLAY RECAP

The first round of the tournament featured one round of stroke play from the teams. Andrew Sweitzer was the top finisher for the Cardinals as he ended in a tie for 17th place hitting a 75. Cam Barrett was not far behind him as he wound up in 35th place after he shot a 79 for the round. Gibson Wilke was the third finisher on the team with a score of 81. The final two golfers for Concordia were Zakary Schroeder and Neil Heinlein with scores of 87 and 91 respectively. 

 

MATCH PLAY RECAP

Following stroke play the Cardinals would be seeded in 12th place. This would have them battle against Cleary in the third flight of the second round and would see Cleary come away with the win. The final round featured Concordia facing off against Maddona to see who would place 11th. Cam Barret would take a point in the match against Madonna's Logan Palmateer, while Neil Heinlein would split with Evan Westphal to each gain a point for their team. Madonna would take the match though 3.5-1.5. 

 

TOURNAMENT RECAP

Luis Pacheco (Lawrence Tech) and Landon Wanless (Cornerstone) took home the first-place finish as they both shot a 68. Lawrence Tech would also place first in the match play side of the tournament as they defeated Lourdes 4.5-0.5 in the first round and Northwestern Ohio 3-2 in the final round.

The golf team will stay in Michigan for the LTU Fall Invite which will be held at the Farmington Hills Golf Club on Friday, September 29.
