Men's Soccer falls to Taylor in home opener

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia men's soccer hosted Taylor on a sunny Saturday afternoon to embark on their 2024 season.  The Cardinals battled hard to pull within a goal in the second half, but the Trojans emerged with a 3-1 win.

 

Kyri Wixom played a complete game in net with 13 saves.  Both teams traded chances early with the Cardinals taking a corner kick off the foot of Marcello PinterpeElijah Macke continued to fire shots near the net and Wixom remained strong in goal.  However, Taylor broke through with a penalty kick goal and added another marker with 2 seconds remaining in the half.  CUAA trailed 2-0 at halftime. 

Marcello Pinterpe took the team's first shot on goal in the 64th minute.  The Cardinals continued attacking with Evan Lock ringing a header off the post.  In the 75th minute, Bryce Schaner converted a penalty kick to break the shutout.  While the Cardinals kept the game within reach, Taylor maintained their lead and added another goal to hand the team a 3-1 loss.

 

Concordia will remain home on Wednesday, August 21st, to host Saint Francis (IN) at 3pm.
