(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Men's Soccer hosted University of Northwester Ohio (UNOH) Wednesday afternoon for a WHAC contest. The Cardinals kept up with the Racers in the scoreless first half, but UNOH pulled away for the 2-0 win.
The Racers started off the half with some looks at goal, but were unable to beat Kyri Wixom. Concordia followed that with a pair of goal opportunities which they nearly scored on including Marlon Rataj nearly catching the Racer keeper off guard and Alejandro Jovine putting one just left of the post. The remainder of the half featured no goals, but an aggressive style of play with five yellow cards awarded between the two sides. Angel Elizondo hit a well struck ball near the end of the half that forced a save from the UNOH keeper to keep it level at halftime.
Fifteen minutes into the second half the Racers were able to break through when Eguzki Hashimoto weaved his way through the Cardinal defense to draw first blood. Shortly after, the Racers drew a penalty kick, which they missed pulling it high off of the cross bar. With 14 minutes remaining in the match, the Racers made it 2-0 with a second effort shot from Natxo Sanchez to the far post. Kyri Wixom finished with 5 saves in goal.
The Cardinals will next be in action on Wednesday, October 2nd when they travel to Siena Heights. Kick off is set for 7:00 PM in Adrian.
