Women's Track & Field finish runner-up at Don Kleinow Invitational

(Adrian, MI) - The Women's track and field team traveled to Siena Heights for the Don Kleinow Invitational hosted on April 18 and 19. The weather proved to be a lot more suitable for competition this weekend than in previous weeks. The team earned 3 NCCAA qualifying marks and 11 new personal records. The Cardinals finished in second place overall with 89 points. They finished 85 points behind winner Siena Heights and 33 points ahead of Madonna.

Maya Freeman (Freshman; Port Huron, MI) earned an NCCAA qualifying mark in shot put with a throw of 11.18 meters. Jayde Ullenbruch earned another qualifying mark, this time in 100-meter hurdles by finishing in 16.66 seconds. Christina Smith (Freshman; Saginaw, MI) punched her ticket with a throw of 28.69 meters in javelin. All three of these efforts were also new personal records for them.

Freeman and Ullenbrunch also earned new personal records in a second event on the day. Freeman saw her Hammer throw improve to 35.25 meters after one of her throws. Ullenbrunch earned a new personal best in long jump, where she finished sixth with a jump of 13.45 meters.

In running events, four Cardinals saw personal improvement. Michaela Kurth (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) and Elizabeth Hines (Freshman; Ypsilanti, MI) each ran to new best times in the 1500. Madisyn Flamini (Sophomore; Fowlerville, MI) and Grace Ponto (Freshman; Westland, MI) earned best times in the 400 hurdles. Kurth finished in fourth place with a time of 5:15.21 and Hines finished in sixth place with a time of 5:41. Flamini won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:17 and Ponto finished in second place with a time of 1:22.

Hailey Stasiukinas (Junior; Wyoming, MI) and Madelyn Ankoviak (Junior; Sanford, MI) both earned personal records in throwing events on the weekend. Stasiukinas improved her shot-put best by throwing 8.87 meters. Ankoviak improved in javelin with a throw of 26.00 meters and finished in seventh place.

The team will return home to host the CUAA Alumni Legacy Meet on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.
