Volleyball falls in straight sets to (RV) Aquinas

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball returned home as they continued WHAC play against (RV) Aquinas. Both teams entered with 4 overall wins and were looking to claim their 2nd WHAC win of the season. While the Cardinals continued to fight hard, Aquinas pulled away to win the match in straight sets.

Gabrielle den Boer (JR/Canton, MI) led the Concordia attack with 7 kills. Hailey McCourt (JR/Toledo, OH) led the team with 11 assists. Tara Schatzle (JR/Brooklyn, MI) anchored the back end with a team-high 11 digs.

Set 1 – AQ 25, CUAA 13

After a 3-0 Aquinas run, Kaitlin Veihl (JR/Muskegon, MI) made a kill for Concordia's first point. The Saints responded with a 9-1 run, taking a double-digit lead with the score 12-2. The Cardinals put together some points late in the set with Denae Tolu (SR/Canton, MI) recording a service ace, but Aquinas took the first set 25-13.

Set 2 – AQ 25, CUAA 9

Lindsey Luff (SO/Flushing, MI) made a well-placed kill off a set from Hailey McCourt to record Concordia's first point in set 2. Gabrielle den Boer showed her power with 3 strong kills early in the set. Hailey McCourt recorded 2 kills in the late stages, but Aquinas was able to take set 2 by a score of 25-9.

Set 3 – AQ 25, CUAA 17

A kill from Lindsey Luff gave Concordia their first point of set 3, tying the match 1-1. The Cardinals kept pace early on when a kill by Lena Thompson (SR/Howard City, MI) tied the match 4-4. CUAA stayed within 5 points for most of the set, picking up a service ace from Delaney Bennett (SR/Fruitport, MI). However, Aquinas was able to finish off the game with a 25-17 win in set 3.

Concordia will play their next game on Saturday, September 28 when they travel to rival Siena Heights. The game is set to begin at 1pm.
