Warriors sweep Cardinals in WHAC action

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Indiana Tech on Wednesday evening for another WHAC matchup. The Warriors entered 24-9 overall with an 11-7 WHAC conference record. The Cardinals improved throughout the match but Indiana Tech swept the game in straight sets.

Delaney Bennett (SR/Fruitport, MI), Gabrielle den Boer (JR/Canton, MI), and Nicole Evans (JR/Bristol, IN) tied for the team lead with 5 kills. Delaney Bennett led the team with 12 digs. Kaitlin Viehl had a team-high 8 assists. Lindsey Luff (SO/Flushing, MI) led the Cardinals with 4 blocks.

Set 1 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 10

Gabrielle den Boer had the first Concordia kill to put the team up 2-0. Indiana Tech responded with a 14-1 run to take a strong double-digit lead. Delaney Bennett had a pair of kills in the set and Lena Thompson (SR/Howard City, MI) and Lindsey Luff combined for a block, but the Warriors took the first set 25-10.

Set 2 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 14

Delaney Bennett had the Cardinals' first kill to make the score 2-1. Lena Thompson had 2 kills early in the set for Concordia. Kaitlin Veihl (JR/Muskegon, MI) had an ace and a kill midway through the set, and Gabrielle den Boer made several kills as well. Nicole Evans had a late block and a kill for back-to-back points, but the Warriors maintained their lead and took the second set 25-14.

Set 3 – Indiana Tech 25, CUAA 19

Gabrielle den Boer made CUAA's first kill in the third set. Lindsey Luff and Nicole Evans combined for an early block and a kill by Evans cut Concordia's deficit to 7-4. After trailing 14-7, the Cardinals used a 4-0 run to pull within 3 points with Nicole Evans stepping up again with a pair of kills. CUAA got within a point when they cut the deficit to 16-15 behind the serves of Gabrielle den Boer. However, Indiana Tech closed the game on a 9-4 run to secure the sweep.

Concordia will play their final game of the 2019 season when they host Cornerstone on Friday, November 8. The Cardinals will be celebrating Senior Day and the team will honor their seniors prior to the game. The contest is scheduled to start at 7pm.
