Esports Weekly Update 2/6-2/12

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Smash team ran into a bit of a speed bump this past week in the Tech Chase Major League with a narrow 1-0 victory over winless Ferris State and an unfortunate 7-0 loss to Aquinas College. This puts their record at 6-4 and tied for 4th place with Oakland University with two weeks to go in the regular season. They play again on Tuesday, February 16th at 7:00pm against undefeated Michigan State and at 8:00pm against current 3rd place team Davenport University. Both matches can be watched at twitch.tv/techchasegg2

Also on Tuesday, the Call of Duty team continued its season play in the College Call of Duty League, losing 3-0 against Northern Illinois University Edwardsville and 3-1 against Roosevelt University. Their next matches are on Tuesday, February 16th at 8:00pm versus Purdue University and at 9:30pm versus Northwood University.

In Fortnite, Jack "J-Fro" Melton competed in the Solo Cash Cup, a weekly tournament variant that features upwards of 40,000 players per week including some of the top professional players in the world. Melton finished with 71 points, earning him placement in the top 1% of players in the tournament, beating out a number of high profile professionals and YouTube stars. Melton and the rest of our Fortnite players will be participating in the upcoming solos and trios national league in PlayVS starting in two weeks.

Our other teams, primarily Rocket League, Overwatch, and Madden, have begun to practice in preparation for the beginning of their PlayVS seasons as well.

We are still looking for the next great recruit for all of our teams in addition to students interested in stream broadcasting and/or community/social media management. If you are interested, contact the Director of Esports, Dominic Scala, at dominic.scala@cuaa.edu.
