Esports Weekly Update (April 17th - 23rd)

The first week of the Concordia University High School Showcase Season, created by captain Zach Yoder, completed play on Wednesday, April 21st with 57 registered high school players from all over North America with the first week's victory going to Renton "rm8" McGlashan, a 15 year old from Edmonton, Alberta. The second week of play for the showcase will be on Wednesday, April 28th at 7:00pm. Registration is new for each week, so all previous and new players need to register online at https://smash.gg/tournament/concordia-university-presents-the-high-school-showcase-season-week-two. Each weekly winner will receive a $20 gift card, with second and third place receiving $10 and $5 cards, respectively. The final week will be invitation only based on previous weeks' standings, with the grand winner receiving a Black Japan Import Gamecube controller and a $25 gift card, with second and third receiving $25 and $15, respectively. Entry is free.

In Fortnite, our captain Zach Burk will be playing in the PlayVS national playoffs for solo competition beginning on Monday, May 3rd at 5:00pm ET. A successful first day earns him a place in the finals the following day.

Andrew "Babyroo31" Foerster earned a place in PlayVS playoffs for Madden as the nationally ranked #6 seed, but he unfortunately had to decline the offer to play as our football team was preparing for their NAIA nationals playoff game. It's definitely difficult to work so hard through the Madden season only to not be able to finish it, but Foerster handled the unfortunate situation with class, and he is looking forward to any Madden competition available during his final semester at CUAA in the fall.

Rocket League's PlayVS league play continued into the penultimate week as the CUAA Black team featuring Cloe Smith, Lizzy Knappenberger, and Shayne Erni took a decisive 3-0 victory over Baldwin Wallace University and a victory by forfeit against Alabama-Huntsville.The CUAA Red team, consisting of Mike Brannan, Thomas Hendry, and Jackson Miles, took two rough losses to West Virginia University and Wake Forest. The season concludes this week on April 29th with CUAA Black's final two matches being played against Keiser University and Stockton University, while CUAA Red will play against Santa Fe College and Old Dominion.

We are still looking for the next great recruit for all of our teams in addition to students interested in stream broadcasting and/or community/social media management. If you are interested, contact the Director of Esports, Dominic Scala, at dominic.scala@cuaa.edu.
