Esports Weekly Update 2/21-2/28/2021

The Smash Ultimate team had a big showing in the final regular season week of the Tech Chase Major League, upsetting Central Michigan by a final score of 1-0 and then defeating Kettering University by a score of 3-0. These two wins brought their record to 8-6, landing them in a tie for 4th place. They lost a sudden death tie breaker match to Oakland University, but that match was more for seeding as they were set to play against them in the first round of playoffs either way. The playoffs will be played on Saturday, March 6th at 2:00pm and all matches can be watched live at twitch.tv/auragamingesports. If the Cardinals defeat Oakland, they will play against #1 seed Michigan State at 4:00pm. From that point, a victory will take them to the finals at 7:00pm while a loss will put them in a 3rd place game at 6:00pm.

The Call of Duty team took a loss against undefeated University of Illinois last Tuesday, but then they had to reschedule the match against Grand Valley State University for Monday, March 1st. They will then wrap up the first half of their season with a match against Eastern Illinois University.

Fortnite got going with preseason for solo and trio based leagues in PlayVS. The regular season starts next Tuesday for solos and Wednesday for trios.

Our first ever Madden solos season got started with pre-season matches in PlayVS as well. Austin "Poeman21" Poe unfortunately only took a win by forfeit over Barton College, and is looking to get started for real next week. Andrew "Babyroo31" Foerster played against St. Thomas University and lost the series 2-0. They will both begin their regular season on Wednesday, March 3rd.

Overwatch begins their first ever regular season in PlayVS on Monday, March 1st, facing off against Keiser University Sarasota at 7:00pm.

We are still looking for the next great recruit for all of our teams in addition to students interested in stream broadcasting and/or community/social media management. If you are interested, contact the Director of Esports, Dominic Scala, at dominic.scala@cuaa.edu.
