Men's Basketball battles Cornerstone but falls at home

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball played host to Cornerstone on Saturday afternoon in WHAC play. The Cardinals kept the game close early and fought hard, but the Golden Eagles pulled away for a 95-76 win.

 

Kip French led the Cardinals with 22 points. Matt Lockhart was second with 20 points. Jayden Priddy came in third with 9 points.

 

 

Matt Lockhart opened scoring with two early layups. Kip French and Ethan Young scored inside and French hit a triple for an 11-10 lead. Devyn Jones converted an offensive putback to tie the game 13-13 at the midway point.

 

Kip French knocked down another 3-pointer for a 16-15 advantage. Jayden Priddy drained two free throws and French continued to hit jumpshots and free throws as the Cardinals stayed close. Matt Lockhart converted a pair of "and-1"s in the final minutes and French tacked on another 3-pointer. CUAA trailed 44-35 at halftime.

 

 

Matt Lockhart made a 3-pointer to open the second half. Zackary Johnson and Matt Lockhart drove for baskets to trim the deficit to 46-43. Johnson hit a triple and Devyn Jones scored a layup to keep the match within reach. Zac Clark also converted inside and CUAA trailed 68-58 at the midway point.

 

An 11-1 run pushed Cornerstone further ahead. Zac Clark drained a 3-pointer and Jayden Priddy had two jumpers and 3 free throws to pace the offense. Henry Knapp knocked down two late triples for the Cardinals, but Cornerstone claimed the win as time expired.

 

 

Concordia will travel to Madonna this Wednesday at 7:30pm.
