Men's Bowling takes runner-up at WHAC Championships

(Fort Wayne, IN) - The Men's Bowling team competed at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament on Saturday and found themselves in the final match going up against the Indiana Tech Warriors. The Cardinals would fall ultimately as they took a second-place finish home. The format of the championship would feature 20 baker games being played and then the tournament would shift to a 4-team playoff bracket. 

 

BAKER PLAY

After 20 baker games, the Cardinals found themselves in first place as they ended with a total of 4110 pins, which was an average of 205.5 pins per game. They would finish 47 pins better than Lawrence Tech. 

 

BRACKET PLAY

Bracket play consisted of the top four teams facing off against one another with 1 against 4 and 2 verse 3, in a best-of-5 series. The Cardinals faced off against Aquinas in the first round of the bracket. After falling in the first game, the Cards would rattle off three straight wins to advance to the final round. 

 

CUAA faced off against the Warriors in the championship round. The two teams tied in the game with games of 179 each. The teams battled back and forth over the next four games to tie the score at 2.5 each for a winner-take-all final match. IIT would control the final game from the start and win 226-177. 

 

WHAC HONORS

The WHAC also released the postseason honors for the conference and was headlined by Brenden Gossman who was named to the First Team All-Conference with an average of 202.19. Two Cardinals were placed on the Second Team with Korey Reichard and David Schaberg averaging 200 and 195.3 respectively. 

 

Four Cardinals were named to the WHAC All-Academic Team with Brenden Gossman, David Smalls, Korey Reichard, and Patrick Good Jr. qualifying with a GPA of 3.25 and being a Junior in Academic standing. 

 

Korey Reichard was also recognized as the team's WHAC Champion of Character. The senior was honored for his commitment to the five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

The Bowling team will head to the ISC and ITC sectionals on March 10-12.
