Reichard named CSC NAIA Team Member of the Year; Gossman and Hovarter earn second team honors

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced their 2022-23 Academic All-America NAIA Men's At-Large Team and Cardinals senior bowler Korey Reichard was named the NAIA Academic All-America Team Member of the Year. Bowling's Brenden Gossman and Men's Lacrosse's Luke Hovarter were also named to the CSC Academic All-America Second Team. 

 

Reichard, a senior from Jackson, Michigan, makes his first appearance on the Academic All-America team following two straight years on the All-District team. This season Reichard had the top average on the team with a 205.35 average over 69 games this season. He saw a high game of 279 at the Midwest Collegiate Championships back in October 2022. 

 

Reichard has had a successful Cardinal career as he finishes his career with the third highest average with a 202.68 throughout 167 games. Reichard is also a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, in addition, he was a 2020-21 NAIA All-American and was named to the NAIA Honorable Mention list this season.

 

Gossman, a senior from Martin, Michigan, is selected to his first Academic All-America Team during his time as a Cardinal after making the CSC All-District Team for the first time as well. During the season, Gossman bowled a 202.8 average over 75 games. He also had a high game of 252 at the RC event. 

Gossman has had a long and full career as a Cardinal, as he averaged 201.1 through 43 events. He was a part of the second best 5-game team series back in 2021-22. He was also a 2x WHAC All-Conference First Team selection and a 2x WHAC All-Conference Second Team Selection throughout his four years at Concordia.

 

Hovarter, a senior from Howell, Michigan, adds to his accolades this season with his selection to the CSC Academic All-America Second Team. Hovarter was also named a NAIA Scholar-Athlete and a WHAC All-Academic Team member. He was also named the WHAC Champion of Character for men's lacrosse.

Hovarter played in 43 games across his four year tenure as a Cardinal. He provided a valuable presence in the midfield of the Concordia men's lacrosse team and proved himself to be a key piece of the Cardinals run to the WHAC regular season championship and the NAIA Invitational in the 2023 season.

 

The 2023 Academic All-America At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes at-large honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

 

The At-Large Teams for the Academic All-America program include bowling, competitive cheer, competitive dance, golf, lacrosse, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling.

 

College Sports Communicators is a 3,200+ member national association for strategic, creative, and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. The organization was previously known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and was changed to its new name in August of 2022.

 

Members of the All-America team must have participated in at least 50% of the team's matches throughout the season while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50. The student-athlete must also complete one full calendar year at the institution and reach sophomore athletic eligibility in order to qualify for the honor.
