(Athens, TN) – Concordia men's lacrosse played their second game of the year on Thursday afternoon when they traveled to #8 Tennessee Wesleyan.  The Cardinals came in 1-0 while the Bulldogs entered 2-1.  Both teams traded runs throughout the game, but CUAA used a late 6-0 run and held on to claim the 12-11 upset win.

 

Sam Bowling started in goal for Concordia, making 12 saves in the win.  Collin Webb took the first shot on goal for the Cardinals, but the Bulldogs struck first with 2 goals.  Ryan Iles broke the shutout with a low shot through the goalie's legs and Hunter McCarty tied the game on an assist from Devin Wolever.  The game was tied 2-2 after the 1st.

 

Tennessee Wesleyan scored two more goals in the 2nd to take a 4-2 lead.  Hunter McCarty started a 3-0 run to put the Cardinals ahead, completing his hat trick at the end of the run.  However, the Bulldogs added 2 more goals to take a 6-5 lead at halftime.

 

After the Bulldogs scored to start the 3rd, Devin Wolever ran in from the left side and scored to keep the deficit to 1 goal.  Tennesee Wesleyan took a 9-6 lead, but Noah Sorenson started a 6-0 run that would surge the Cardinals back ahead.  Blake Blaisdell added a marker and Hunter McCarty tied the game after curling in from the left side on multiple passes.  Evan Stuart had the go-ahead marker to put CUAA up 10-9 after the 3rd.

 

The Concordia run continued with Hunter McCarty's 4th and 5th goals of the game in the 4th quarter.  The Bulldogs attempted to mount a comeback with two goals in the last 2 minutes of the game, but the Cardinal defense held on to secure the 12-11 upset victory.

 

Concordia will begin WHAC conference play at Lourdes on March 19 at 4:00pm.
