No. 2 Indiana Tech defeats No. 6 Cardinals 13-4 in WHAC Tournament Championship

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia traveled to Indiana Tech on Saturday evening, competing for the first WHAC tournament championship in school history.  The matchup came down to the top 2 seeds as the #2 Cardinals faced off against the #1 Warriors.  Indiana Tech lived up to their billing in the game and while CUAA converted 4 times in the second half, the Warriors won 13-4.

 

Sam Bowling started in goal, making 17 total saves.  Devin Wolever registered the first shot on goal, but Indiana Tech used 5 unanswered goals to pull ahead in the 1st quarter.  Concordia earned a power-play chance with a 2-man advantage in the final minute, but the team still trailed 5-0 after the 1st.

 

The Cardinals showed good ball movement on their powerplay but were unable to convert.  While the first 9 minutes of the quarter were scoreless, Indiana Tech added 4 more goals to close out the quarter.  CUAA headed to the locker room trailing 9-0.

 

Ryan Iles broke the shutout with the first goal of the 3rd quarter.  Indiana Tech added another marker, but Hunter McCarty countered with a shot that trickled into the net.  Devin Wolever tallied at the 2:02 mark and CUAA trailed 10-3 after the 3rd.

 

Indiana Tech scored first in the 4th quarter but Ryan Iles added his 2nd goal of the game.  While the Cardinals continued to generate chances on offense, the Warriors were able to hold strong on defense throughout the rest of the game.  CUAA fell by a final score of 13-4.

 

Concordia will now wait to see if they will earn an at-large bid to make a trip to the NAIA National Invitational.
