Wolever and Saje named WHAC and NAIA player of the week

The Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) and National Association Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced their weekly player of the week recipients. Devin Wolever was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Sam Saje was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Both Cardinals had an impressive week leading the  team to two wins and an undefeated record overall.

 

In the Cardinals 13-12 win over Aquinas last Wednesday, Wolever recorded three goals and one assist on nine shot attempts. He also recorded two ground balls. In the Cardinals 11-7 win over Taylor, Wolever led the Cardinals comeback. With the Cardinals trailing 56 with 3:27 left in the third quarter, Devin scored 5 of the Cardinals last 6 goals to complete the comeback. Wolver is second on the team with 22 goals this season and has totaled 31 points.

 

Sam Saje is the faceoff specialists for the Cardinals. He has been instrumental in helping the Cardinals maintain possession throughout the game. Last week against Aquinas, Saje won 14 faceoffs for a percentage of 54%. He also recorded a season high 10 ground balls. In the win over Taylor, Saje once again led the Cardinals winning 11 faceoffs and totaled 9 ground balls. Saje leads the teams with 49 groundballs on the season and has won 53% of faceoffs.

 

Saje and Wolever join several teammates that have been recognized by the WHAC and NAIA for their efforts. Hunter McCarty and Blake Blaisdell were previously named NAIA and WHAC Offensive Player of the Week. Sam Bowling was named WHAC and NAIA Defensive Player of the Week as well.

 

The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, April 7th when they host Siena Heights for Senior Day. The Cardinals are currently 7-0 on the season and are ranked 6th in the NAIA coaches poll.
