NAIA RELEASE

(Kansas City, MO) – Hunter McCarty was named the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. McCarty advanced to the national level where his weekly stats were compared to other conference winners across the NAIA.  On Tuesday afternoon, McCarty was honored by the NAIA as the Offensive Player of the Week.

McCarty's accolades comes on the heels on an impressive week where the freshman standout totaled 11 goals in two games while leading the Cardinals to two wins.

In the Cardinals dominating 24-3 home opener win last Monday vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene, McCarty recorded a season high seven goals and five assists. In the Cardinals 14-8 win over UM Dearborn on Sunday afternoon, McCarty led the Cardinals with four goals while also contributing an assist. In the two games last week, McCarty recorded 21 total shots with 16 coming on goal.

McCarty has made an immediate impact during his freshman campaign. Through five games so far, McCarty leads the Cardinals with  26 goals, 11 assists, and 37 points. He also ranks among the conference leaders in these categories as well.

This is the second time McCarty has been recognized by the WHAC this season as offensive player of the week. Teammates Blake Blaisdell  and Sam Bowling were also recognized by the WHAC and NAIA earlier this season as player of the week at their respective positions.

The individual accolades for McCarty and other Cardinals throughout the season have attributed to the team's success. The Cardinals earned the first ranking in program history in last week's NAIA Coaches poll. The Cardinals are ranked 6th and will continue WHAC play on Wednesday afternoon when they host Aquinas College. The game is set for Noon at Cardinal Stadium.
