No. 6 Cardinals fall short in upset bid over No. 2 Warriors 13-6

(Fort Wayne, IN) – The 6th ranked Concordia men's lacrosse team traveled to No. 2 Indiana Tech on Saturday evening for a significant WHAC conference matchup.  The Cardinals entered the contest 7-1 overall (4-1 WHAC) while the Warriors came in 13-1 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play.  CUAA kept the game close early on, but Indiana Tech eventually pulled away for a 13-6 win.

 

Blake Blaisdell led the team with 3 goals in the game.  Reggie Thompson had a team-high 6 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.  Sam Saje performed well winning 10 of 21 faceoffs.

 

Sam Bowling racked up 17 saves in net for Concordia.  Sam Saje won the opening faceoff in the game, but Indiana Tech scored first in the contest.  The Cardinals quickly answered when Devin Wolever notched a powerplay goal to tie the game.  CUAA took a 2-1 lead at the 10:56 mark on a goal by Evan Stuart with Hunter McCarty drawing the assist.  However, Indiana Tech closed the quarter with three unanswered goals to lead 4-2 after the 1st.

 

Concordia continue to generate chances on offense, but the Warriors tacked on 2 more goals to take a 6-2 lead.  The Cardinals ended the run when Blake Blaisdell snapped a quick shot that found its way in the goal.  Indiana Tech answered with a goal and the Cardinals trailed 7-3 at halftime.

 

Evan Stuart opened scoring in the third quarter, curving through the defense and firing a low shot in the net.  After the Warriors answered with a goal, Blake Blaisdell scored his second marker of the contest.  Concordia kept creating chances but Indiana Tech added 2 more goals to lead 10-5 after the 3rd.

 

Indiana Tech scored first in the 4th quarter, but Blake Blaisdell finished his hat trick at the 9:28 mark with Devin Wolever drawing the assist.  While the Cardinals kept looking for opportunities to get through the Warriors' defense, the team fell by a final score of 13-6.

 

Concordia will now await their opponent in the WHAC conference tournament.
