Men's Lacrosse earns double overtime victory at Tennessee Wesleyan

(Athens, TN) - CUAA men's lacrosse traveled to Tennessee Wesleyan for a Sunday afternoon contest.  The game was closely contested with the Cardinals overcoming a four-goal deficit late in the game.  The match went to double overtime with Cooper Regimbal scoring the game winner for a 17-16 win.  

 

Conor Kinsey played the first half in net making nine saves.  Travis Wright opened scoring with an unassisted goal.  TWU countered with two goals, but the Cardinals tied the game on a marker from Ryan Davis Travis Wright tallied with 17 seconds left on a feed from Ross Preston to give CUAA a 3-2 lead after the first quarter. 

 

Both teams continued to trade goals with Andrew Simmons scoring on the power play.  Ryan Davis found the back of the net with Spencer Guppy assisting, but TWU rallied to take a 6-5 lead.  Ryan Davis finished his hat trick to tie the game and Ross Preston also scored on a feed from Andrew Simmons.  CUAA trailed 8-7 at halftime. 

 

Michael Hart played goalie starting in the second half, recording six saves.  Andrew Simmons had the first Cardinal goal in the third quarter.  Ross Preston and Cooper Regimbal notched unassisted goals as the team stayed close.  TWU took a 14-10 lead, but Travis Wright completed his hat trick and Cooper Regimbal also tallied in the last minute.  CUAA faced a 14-12 deficit after the third quarter. 

 

Ryan Davis scored to open the fourth quarter continuing a run that would pull the Cardinals ahead.  Spencer Guppy tallied and both Cooper Regimbal and Ross Preston finished their hat tricks to cap the rally. However, TWU responded with two goals to force overtime with the game tied 16-16. 

 

Neither team scored in the first overtime.  In the second overtime, Cooper Regimbal found a seam in the middle of the defense and fired the game winning shot into the net.   

 

CUAA men's lacrosse will play next on Friday, February 28th, against Columbia (MO) in Westfield, Indiana.
