(Ann Arbor, MI) The women's soccer team took to Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium for the last time this regular season for a WHAC matchup against Lourdes. The two teams were separated by just a point in the WHAC tables coming into the match. Lourdes came out of the game with a 2-0 win to give them the edge in the standings with one game remaining.
Lourdes' Chloe Shaffer volleyed in a shot that bounced her way less than a minute into the game to put the Gray Wolves up early in the match. That was the only goal Anna Roman would allow as she would accumulate 4 saves throughout the half. The Cardinals' best look in the first half was a throw in that was headed by Isabel Stropich to Megan Starkey who put a shot on goal that was saved by the Lourdes' keeper. Starkey and Kiera Savage both had looks at goal that did not go in, which kept things at 1-0 in the first half.
Hayley Jacobson went in goal for the Cardinals in the second half. Hazel Wright deflected a cross from Lourdes' Shaffer which led to a Lourdes corner. That corner was headed out of bounds at the far post for another Gray Wolves scoring scare. Megan Starkey had a shot poked over the crossbar later on in the half and a Hazel Wright free kick from the side line about 18 yards out hit off of the field goal post crossbar. With less than three minutes remaining Kayla Dillinger popped a shot over Jacobsen to secure the 2-0 win for Lourdes.
The Cardinals will play their last regular season game at Aquinas this Saturday, October 30th. Kickoff will be at noon in Grand Rapids.
