Men's basketball falls to Aquinas 80-64

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball finished the weekend by hosting Aquinas in WHAC conference play.  Both teams entered the tilt looking to claim their 4th conference win of the year.  CUAA fought hard throughout the game, but the team was unable to pull ahead and fell 80-64.

 

Tyler Black led the team with 16 points.  Colton Ritsema and Devyn Jones tied for second with 8 points.  Matt Lockhart had a team-high 6 rebounds.

 

Colton Ritsema scored on a hook shot to start off the game.  Ritsema added a second layup but the Saints used a 10-0 run to go up 12-4.  The Cardinals cut into the deficit with a quick drive from Zackary Johnson and two fast break layups from Tyler Black.

 

Tyler Black made a high-arcing triple and Jordan Winowiecki scored inside off a quick feed from Bernard KasandaThomas Hronis knocked down a jumper and Jordan Winowiecki and Bernard Kasanda had late free throws, but Aquinas continued to maintain their lead.  After a buzzer-beating layup from Colton Ritsema, CUAA trailed 43-31 at halftime.

 

Thomas Hronis started the 2nd half with a 3-pointer.  Aquinas extended their lead with a 12-0 run until Devyn Jones stopped a long scoring drought with an inside basket.  Jones added another layup and an old-fashioned three-point play.

Tyler Black made 4 free throws and Nate Brighton converted an "and-1" as the Cardinals kept fighting.  Black continued to convert with fast break baskets and Darren Mitchelson scored his first career points with a layup and 3 free throws.  However, Aquinas secured the 80-64 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will play their next game at Indiana Tech on Wednesday, February 17 at 8:00pm.
