Men's basketball ends season in WHAC semifinals to Indiana Tech

(Fort Wayne, Ind.) After a thrilling upset victory over Cornerstone on Tuesday afternoon in the WHAC Quarterfinals, the Cardinals advanced to face #2 Indiana Tech in the semifinals. Making their first appearance in the semifinals since 2013, the Cardinals were posed for another upset. Indiana Tech had other plans by eliminating any chance for another Cardinals upset. The Warriors jumped out to a quick 11-0 lead and never looked back defeating the Cardinals 71-49.

Tyler Black and Colton Ritsema paced the Cardinals offensively in double figures with 14 and 10 respectively. The key to the game was the Warriors defensive game plan which limited the Cardinals at the three point line. After recording 12 (12-30) three pointers in the upset win over Cornerstone, the Cardinals only found the bottom of the net 6 times in 30 tries (20%).

The Warriors held the Cardinals to 28% shooting overall while shooting 26.7 % themselves. The Warriors also overwhelmed the Cardinals on the boards to a margin of 15 (47-32). Eleven of the Cardinals rebounds were offensive.

The Cardinals cut it to 10 with 7:21 left in the first half but the Warriors would maintain a double digit advantage for the remaining first half. The Warriors led 34-21 at halftime.

The Warriors stayed in control for the second half preventing any comeback by the Cardinals.

With the win, the Warriors clinched the WHAC second automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship. The Warriors will play top-seeded Rochester University on Monday night for the WHAC Championship. Upon the conclusion of the championship game, the WHAC will announce the season awards where several Cardinals will be recognized.
