Men's basketball falls to Lourdes 75-68 in regular season finale

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball played their regular season finale by hosting Lourdes on Tuesday evening.  The Cardinals looked to secure the #6 seed in the WHAC conference tournament with a victory.  Both teams traded leads throughout the game, but Lourdes pulled ahead in the final minutes for a 75-68 win.

 

Thomas Hronis led Concordia with 25 points in the game, going 7-17 from behind the arc.  Bernard Kasanda finished second with 13 points.  Colton Ritsema was in double figures with 10 points.  Matt Lockhart had a team-high 7 rebounds along with 6 points.

 

Thomas Hronis hit a 3-pointer from the corner to open scoring.  Lourdes countered with a 7-0 run and Colton Ritsema responded with a jumper.  After Lourdes went up 15-5, Bernard Kasanda started a 10-0 CUAA run to tie the game.  Tyler Black added a floater in the run and Zackary Johnson had the tying free throws.

 

Thomas Hronis continued his dominant play behind the arc with two more 3-pointers to pace the Concordia offense.  After a layup from Matt Lockhart, another Hronis triple gave the Cardinals a 26-24 lead.  Bernard Kasanda also drained a 3-pointer late in the half and CUAA led 35-31 at halftime.

 

Thomas Hronis hit yet another 3-pointer for Concordia's first second-half basket.  Ritsema added a pair of triples as the Cardinals built a 46-37 lead.  However, Lourdes used a 15-4 run to retake the lead at the 13:38 mark.

 

Anthony Condie put Concordia back in front with a layup in the paint.  CJ Moore scored on a hook shot and Bernard Kasanda converted an old-fashioned three-point play.  A quick drive from Kasanda tied the game 65-65 with 3:23 to go.

 

Trailing 69-65, Thomas Hronis drilled a 3-pointer with a defender's hand in his face to cut the deficit to just 1 point.  However, Lourdes was able to make their free throws in the final stages and the Cardinals fell 75-68.

 

The Cardinals earned the #6 seed in the WHAC Tournament and will travel to #3 Cornerstone on Thursday evening. Tip off for the WHAC Quarterfinals will be at 7pm.
