Men's Lacrosse rallies in fourth quarter to down Madonna 16-15 in WHAC Semifinal
 
 

(Livonia, MI) - CUAA men's lacrosse traveled to #2 seed Madonna University on Thursday afternoon in the second round of the WHAC tournament. The game was closely contested with the Cardinals rallying in the fourth quarter for a thrilling 16-15 victory. 

 

Joseph Loria played the full game in net with seven saves The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead with goals by Ross Preston and Travis Wright Cooper Regimbal notched a pair of markers in the quarter as well. The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter. 

 

Travis Wright, Spencer Guppy and Andrew Simmons all found the back of the net for a 3-0 run in the second quarter Andrew Simmons scored later in the frame, but the Crusaders slowly chipped away at the Cardinal lead. CUAA trailed 9-8 at halftime. 

 

Madonna scored twice to begin the third quarter Spencer Guppy recorded an unassisted goal and Ryan Davis also tallied A goal from Aldo Mejia-Hans trimmed the deficit to 14-11 after the third quarter.   

 

The Cardinals rally continued in the fourth quarter when Cooper Regimbal and Travis Wright completed their hat tricks. Madonna ended the run with a goal, but Spencer Guppy completed his hat trick and then Ryan Davis tied the game 15-15 at the 3:30 mark. The game appeared to be headed to overtime but Spencer Guppy scored his fourth goal off a feed from Travis Wright to clinch the exciting 16-15 victory. 

 

CUAA will host fourth seeded Aquinas in the WHAC championship game this Saturday, April 26th at 1:00 PM.
