Golden goal lifts Blue Devils over Cardinals 2-1 in double overtime

(Southfield, MI) – Concordia men's soccer played their final fall game of 2020 when they traveled to Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.  The Cardinals came in 2-3 overall while the Blue Devils came in 4-2.  CUAA's Jordan Whitt scored a tying goal in the 84th minute to force extra time, but Lawrence Tech was able to secure a 2-1 win in double overtime.

 

Ryan Webb started in goal for Concordia, making 3 saves in the game.  Lawrence Tech took an early lead with a goal in the 22nd minute to go up 1-0.  The Cardinals had a pair of opportunities with corner kicks off the foot of Boris Illic and Luke Neuhaus directing a header on net.  However, CUAA trailed 1-0 at halftime.

 

The Concordia offense continued to keep up the pressure in the second half with multiple corner kicks and free kicks.  The Cardinals finally converted in the 84th minute when Jordan Whitt scored on a header after a scrum in front of the net with multiple deflections. Ryan Webb made all 3 of his saves in the 2nd half and the game headed to overtime tied 1-1.

 

Brett Kuhlman notched the only shot on goal in the first overtime as the game would require another extra frame to determine a winner.  However, Lawrence Tech was able to score just 2 minutes into the 2nd overtime with a bicycle kick goal to win the game.

 

Concordia concludes their fall season and will now begin preparations for the spring portion of their schedule. More details regarding the fall schedule will be released soon.
