(Ann Arbor, Mich.) – Concordia men's soccer team hosted Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day. The Cardinals recognized five seniors that have made many positive contributions to Concordia both on and off the field. The Cardinals gave the Saints all they could handle for a full 90 minutes but came up short, 2-1. The Saints (9-2, 8-2) showed why they are one of the top teams in the league as they held off the pesky Cardinals.

Both teams came out aggressive from the start with a combined five shots on goal in the first five minutes of play. Boris Illic nearly put the Cardinals on the board first as his shot at 8:34 found the crossbar. A couple minutes later, Aquinas found the back of the net on a free kick from 30 yards out by Theo Maye.

The Cardinals and Saints played evenly for the last 20 minutes of the half with Aquinas holding the 1-0 advantage at halftime.

Boris Illic evened the match 10 minutes into the second half as he recorded his second goal of the season. Illic ripped the low-liner from 20 yards out just missing the out-stretched goalkeeper.

The Saints took the lead 2-1 in the 77th minute on a thru pass that Jasper Schinkel put past the Cardinals goal to take the advantage.

With their playoff hopes on the line, the Cardinals remained aggressive as a header by Luke Neuhaus hit the post in the 84th minute. The Cardinals had two more corner kicks on the last five minutes of match but could not convert.

The Cardinals will conclude their season on Tuesday as they travel Howell, Mich. to face Cleary.
