Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Match Against Rochester

(Pontiac, MI) – The men's soccer team hit the pitch for their second game of the spring portion of their schedule as they traveled north to Pontiac, Michigan, for a non-conference matchup against Rochester University. The game took place inside Ultimate Soccer . The Cardinals would fall to the Warriors in their final non-conference matchup before resuming conference play by a 2-0 final score.

Ryan Webb got the starting nod in net for Concordia. Webb was coming off a 7-save performance in the 2nd half that he played against Indiana Wesleyan last week. Ryan was able to save the first Warriors attempt on goal but was unable to come up with the save against Alex Popa's one-timer that found the back of the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play. Webb finished the first half with 6 saves before being replaced by Kyri Wixom at halftime.

The Cardinals offense struggled to get going against the stout defense of Rochester. Concordia did put some pressure on the Warriors as they were able to garner 6 corner kicks while only allowing 3 on the defensive side of the ball. However, the Warriors tripled up the Cardinals in shots by ripping 24 on the Cardinals' netminder with 13 being on goal. The Cardinals were not able hit double digit shots as they only mustered 8 shots but did have a high-shooting percentage as 6 of them were on frame.

Kyri Wixom had another impressive performance in his half of action for the Cardinals as he shut-out the Warriors offense for the first 26 minutes of the 2nd half. However, Evan Mitchell was able to add an insurance goal to their tally coming off a corner kick which would prove to be enough to lift the Warriors over the Cardinals. Wixom would finish with 6 saves for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals will have the next week and a half off to prep for the resumption of conference play as they are set to host Indiana Tech at Cardinal Stadium on March 10th. Kick-off is set for 1pm in Ann Arbor.
