Late goal lifts Lourdes over Concordia, 2-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's soccer hosted Lourdes on Saturday morning in a WHAC conference matchup.  The Cardinals entered 2-2 overall while the Gray Wolves came in 3-4.  CUAA overcame an early 1-0 deficit to tie the game, but a Lourdes goal in the 88th minute handed them the win.

Reigning NAIA Defensive Player of the Week Ryan Webb started in goal for Concordia, making 4 saves in the game.  The Cardinal defense made a critical play in the 4th minute as Derek McComas helped out with a blocked shot to keep the game scoreless.

The Gray Wolves scored in the 8th minute off a free kick, taking an early 1-0 lead.  Ryan Webb made 3 early saves to keep the game within reach, and the Cardinal offense tied the game when Brett Kuhlman scored on the fast break off a cross from Austin Corona.  The game remained tied 1-1 at halftime.

The teams settled into a battle of defenses for most of the 2nd half.   Concordia weathered multiple attacks from Lourdes with Luke Neuhaus making a defensive save and Ryan Webb adding another stop to his tally.  Derek McComas had the best Cardinal chance with a late shot after a good run in the 86th minute.  However, Lourdes was able to take the lead off a cross just 2 minutes later.  The Gray Wolves held on to secure the 2-1 win.

Concordia will play their final fall game on October 31 when they travel to Lawrence Tech for a Halloween matchup.  The game is set to begin at 3pm.
