Men's soccer blanks Siena Heights, 2-0

(Adrian, MI) – Concordia men's soccer traveled to Siena Heights on Wednesday evening to continue WHAC conference play.  Both teams looked to claim their second victory of the year in the rivalry game.  The Cardinals managed to keep a clean sheet throughout and downed the Saints 2-0 to claim the win.

Ryan Webb started in net for Concordia, making 7 saves in the contest.  The match began as a defensive contest with most of the play staying in the midfield.  The Cardinals struck first in the 22nd minute when a penalty kick was awarded after a strong drive into Siena Heights territory.   Brett Kuhlman stepped up to take the kick and buried the ball in the bottom right side of the net.

Concordia continued to attack the Saints with Brett Kuhlman receiving a second penalty kick opportunity which was saved by the Siena Heights keeper.  Nyle Ellis and Nicholas Corona fired shots on the net late in the game and CUAA took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Ryan Webb remained sharp in the second half, making 5 of his 7 saves in the final frame.  A frantic sequence occurred in the 76th minute when Webb was knocked down in a collision with a Saints player, but the goalkeeper returned to the Concordia net and made another save.

The Cardinals extended their lead in the 81st minute when Nyle Ellis slid and scored a goal off a rebound from a Jordan Whitt shot.  CUAA was able to hold on and secure the 2-0 victory as time expired.

Concordia will return home on Saturday, October 24 to host Lourdes.  The match will begin at 11am as part of a double header with the women's team.
