Softball sweeps NCCAA Student-Athlete of the Week awards as McAlinden and Underwood are both honored.

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their winners for Student-Athletes of the Week for Softball and two Concordia Cardinals Softball players took home honors.

 

Shannon McAlinden earns her fourth NCCAA honor of her career, while Underwood takes home her first honor.

 

 

McAlinden, a senior from Riverview, Michigan, tied for the team lead in hits this past weekend as the team went 6-1. She totaled 12 hits, which included two doubles and one home run. She was also able to bring in six runs across the plate while scoring eight runs herself. 

 

 

Underwood, a freshman from Chelsea, Michigan, pitched in 3 games for the Cardinals and she picked up a win in all three games. Through 20 innings, Underwood allowed 1 earned run on the weekend while striking out a total of 26 batters. She recorded an ERA of 0.35 while allowing less than 1 runner per inning. 

 

The Cardinals will have a week off before they head to Iowa to compete at the Dome Tournament, hosted by St. Ambrose, for four games. The Cardinals will play a pair of games each Saturday and Sunday on February 24-25. The games will be at 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM EST each day.
