Underwood and McAlinden named NCCAA All-Americans; Underwood National Player of the Year

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) announced their All-America teams for the 2024 season and three Cardinals were honored as they were named to the teams.

 

The Cardinals took home their second straight NCCAA World Series Championship last week going 5-1. The Cardinals won the final game of the World Series over Southwestern Christian by a score of 3-1. 

 

The honors were highlighted by Emilee Underwood who took home National Player of the Year, while Head Coach Hailey Cavanagh earned Coach of the Year. 

 


FIRST TEAM

EMILEE UNDERWOOD | FR | CHELSEA, MICHIGAN

 

Underwood becomes the first Cardinal to be named NCCAA National Player of the Year after 

Taking home the pitching triple crown as she led the NCCAA in ERA (1.66), Wins (21), and Strikeouts (170). 

 

SHANNON MCALINDEN | SR | RIVERVIEW, MICHIGAN

Shannon McAlinden led the NCCAA in the hitting department this season collecting 86 hits with 26 of them doubles. She also brought in 50 runners, which is tied for the third most in the NCCAA. On the basepaths, she was able to swipe 36 bases to the NCCAA. 

 


COACH OF THE YEAR

HAILEY CAVANAGH | 7TH SEASON

This is Coach Cavanagh's second time she has taken home National Coach of the Year after earning the honor in 2023. Cavanagh has a 196-135 overall record in her seven years at CUAA.
