Softball sweeps UM-Dearborn in doubleheader

(Livonia, MI) - Concordia softball traveled to Livonia to face UM Dearborn in a WHAC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals performed well picking up 8-1 and 7-1 victories.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 8, UMD 1

Paige Anderson pitched a complete game in the first contest with 5 strikeouts. The Cardinals struck first in the second when Jada Stephenson hit an RBI single scoring Elyse Brittain. Sarah Tyrrell then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Faith Cramton.

In the third, Faith Cramton used a sacrifice fly to score Cassidy Kane. UM Dearborn broke the shutout with a run in the bottom half.

In the fourth, Payton Lewis reached home on an error. In the fifth, Jada Stephenson had an RBI double to score Summer Brady. Payton Lewis tacked on a 2-RBI double to drive in Sarah Tyrrell and Stephenson. Lewis later reached home while Cassidy Kane was caught in a rundown.

Paige Anderson continued her solid pitching and secured the 8-1 victory.

 

GAME 2 – CUAA 7, UMD 1

Emilee Underwood pitched a full game in the second contest with 7 strikeouts. The Cardinals opened scoring in the third when Maddy Grueter hit a bases-loaded RBI single scoring Sarah Tyrrell. Jada Stephenson then drew a walk forcing Shannon McAlinden home.

UM Dearborn had a homer in the fourth to trim the lead to 2-1.

In the seventh, Cassidy Kane had a sacrifice groundout to score Jada Stephenson. Payton Lewis then hit a deep 2-RBI triple to drive in Bella Lee and Summer Brady. Sarah Tyrrell used an RBI groundout to drive in Lewis. Katie Tobias capped the scoring with an RBI single sending Shannon McAlinden home.

Emilee Underwood and the Cardinal defense closed out game two for a 7-1 win.

 

Concordia will hold their home opener tomorrow, March 28th, when they host UNOH for a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
