(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia softball faced off against Geneva College in the first round of NCCAA regional play. The Cardinals held the Golden Tornadoes to just one hit in an 8-0 mercy rule win in six innings.
Paige Anderson pitched a complete game with 2 strikeouts. Katie Tobias opened scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Jada Stephenson was able to reach home after she stole third base and scored on an error.
Katie Tobias crushed a 3-run homer in the third inning to extend the lead. Tobias added her fifth RBI of the day with a single in the fifth inning that scored Shannon McAlinden.
In the sixth inning, Emmi Liptow used an RBI groundout to drive in Sarah Tyrrell. Shannon McAlinden then hit into a fielder's choice scoring Summer Brady and triggering the mercy rule for an 8-0 victory.
Concordia will again host the NCCAA softball Midwest regionals. They play the winner of the Geneva College versus Grace Christian matchup tomorrow, May 8th, at 1pm. If the Cardinals win, they clinch the regional NCCAA title. If the Cardinals lose, another contest is needed and they will play in a championship game at 3pm.
