Softball tops Grace Christian for non-conference sweep
(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia softball hosted Grace Christian on a cool spring afternoon for a doubleheader.  The Cardinals turned in an outstanding offensive effort with 13-3 and 14-1 wins.  
 
GAME 1 – CUAA 13, GC 3 (five innings)
Paige Anderson started game one on the mound, recording 7 strikeouts in three innings.  The Cardinals scored 5 runs in the first inning, starting with a solo home run by Cassidy Kane.  Madison Poe hit an RBI single to score Katie Tobias and Maddy Grueter singled to drive in Poe.  Bella Lee tacked on an RBI single to score Grueter and then reached home on an RBI single by Sarah Tyrrell.
 
In the second inning, Shannon McAlinden used an RBI triple to score Cassidy Kane.  Katie Tobias hit an RBI double to drive in McAlinden and scored on an RBI single from Madison Poe.   

The Cardinals continued the onslaught in the third inning with Sarah Tyrrell using an RBI single to score Jada Stephenson.  Payton Lewis crushed a 2-run homer and Katie Tobias added an RBI single to score Shannon McAlinden.   

Hannah Duchene pitched the fourth inning recording 3 strikeouts.  In the bottom half, Morgan Scott used an RBI groundout to drive in Madalyne Wieneke.   

Emma Thompson pitched the fifth inning and the Cardinals secured the 13-3 victory.  
 
GAME 2 – CUAA 14, GC 1 (five innings) 
Emilee Underwood was the starting pitcher in game two, racking up 7 strikeouts in three innings. Katie Tobias smashed a 2-run homer in the top of the first inning. 

The Cardinals exploded for 9 runs in the second inning.  Faith Cramton started the inning with an RBI double to score Maddy Grueter.  Sarah Tyrrell tacked on a 2-RBI triple and Payton Lewis continued the extra-base hits with an RBI double.  Shannon McAlinden used a sacrifice fly to score Lewis and Maddy Grueter added a 2-RBI single that drove in Sarah McManus and Katie Tobias. Sarah Tyrrell and Payton Lewis drew bases-loaded walks to cap the inning. 

In the third inning, Megan Martin and Morgan Scott drew bases-loaded walks which sent Summer Brady and Lauryn Rhodea home.  Madison Poe added an RBI single to drive in Megan Martin.   

Elyse Brittain pitched the last two inning with 2 strikeouts.  The Cardinals secured the 14-1 win in five innings by the mercy rule. 


Concordia will travel to Indiana Tech tomorrow, April 25th, for a doubleheader starting at 2pm. The Cardinals enter in 3rd place in the WHAC standings while the Warriors come in at 4th place.
