Women's Hockey picks up weekend sweep over Saints

Ann Arbor, Mich. — The Women's Hockey team secured their first sweep of the year after beating Aquinas for the second time in two days on Saturday. They outshot the Saints by more than 50, and won 7-0.

Concordia came hot out of the gates with a goal from Makayla Steinmetz in the first two minutes of the game. Three minutes later Mallory Collins found the back of the net off a pass from Skylar Croft. The Cardinals found the back of the net once again from a sharp shot off the stick of Emma Shore. Steinmetz found the net once more before the end of the period to go up 4-0 heading into the first intermission.

The second period featured no goals, but the Cardinals held strong defensively after a long period of penalty kill. They committed seven penalties in the period, yet were able to hold the Saints to only 5 shots on goal. Molly Burks was able to stop all five!

The third period started off with a lot of back and forth play at center ice before the Cardinals scored halfway through the period. Back to back power play goals from Lauren Benoit and Emma Shore put the Cardinals up 6-0 with seven minutes remaining in the game. A minute later Benoit found the net again for her second goal of the period. The Cardinals finished the period strong to take home a 7-0 victory and their first weekend sweep of the year!

Concordia outshot Aquinas an astounding 63-6, with the offense playing most of the game in Aquinas' zone. They were able to kill 8 total penalties on the day, and added two power play goals of their own.

The Cardinals are back in action next weekend taking on Lake Superior State on November 22nd. Puck drop is set for 7:00PM!
