(Canton, MI) The Concordia University Women's Hockey team hosted the Davenport University Panthers on the Cardinals' Senior Night. This was the second and final match between the two teams in the regular season. The Cardinals took advantage of an early lead and carried that to an 8-0 shutout victory over the Panthers.
Cardinal goaltender Rose Lennon led the Cardinals with 9 saves on 9 attempts.
The Cardinals controlled the momentum of the entire first period with an early goal scored by Julie McLaughlin helped by Nicole Koops and Emma Shore just thirteen seconds into the match. Not long after, Lauren Benoit scored assisted by Skylar Croft and Sara Kaczmarek to increase the Cardinal lead to 2-0. The Cardinals took advantage of a late-period powerplay on a goal from Emma Shore helped by Kaczmarek and Mallory Collins to increase the Cardinal advantage to 3-0 heading into the second period.
The Cardinals once again would control all the action in the second period. Grace Dodgson scored the only goal of the period for either team. Dodgson was assisted by McLaughlin to make it a 4-0 match heading into the third period.
The third period was another great period for the Cardinals as they scored four goals in the period. Makayla Steinmetz started the scoring for the Cardinals helped by Benoit and Kaczmarek. Shortly after Sydney Orkisz scored, helped by Shore and Kaczmarek to make it a 6-0 Cardinal lead. The Cardinals would take advantage of another late period powerplay as Collins scored assisted by Kaczmarek. With just over a minute to go in the match, Dakota Harmon scored assisted by Croft and Benoit to make it an 8-0 match, which would be the final score of the match.
The Cardinals will await their next matchup in the CCWHA tournament, which starts Thursday, February 20th in Livonia.
