(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Women's Hockey team made their first appearance in the Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA) playoffs as they headed to Livonia, Michigan to take on the Nittany Lions from Penn State University. The game was hard fought until the third period when PSU tallied the final two goals in the final 12 minutes to pull out the 5-3 win and advance to the quarterfinals.
Rose Lennon (7-11-0) was the goaltender in net for the Cardinals as she recorded 26 saves on 31 total shots throughout the game.
The first period saw Penn State take the first lead in the game just three minutes in as Kaitlyn Bahrs scored the first Nittany Lions goal. Makayla Steinmetz was able to even the game as she scored unassisted. Both teams have a power play chance with neither team able to come away with a person advantage.
As the teams headed into the second period, the Nittany Lions were able to take advantage of a power play as they scored eight minutes into the second. Steinmetz once again tied the game just before the end of the period as she was able to score off assists from Lauren Benoit and Brooklyn Watkins.
Both teams once again traded goals to start off the period as the Cardinal's goal came off the stick of Mallory Collins, with assists from Grace Dodgson and Emma Shore. Penn State scored a pair of goals in the finals 12 minutes to pull out the 5-3 win.
