(Canton, MI) - Concordia women's hockey hosted Rhode Island on Friday night to begin a weekend series. The Cardinals scored four goals in the first period and maintained their shutout for a 4-0 victory.
Rose Lennon played a complete game in net making 34 saves for a shutout. The Cardinals scored just 29 seconds into the game when Skylar Croft found the back of the net with Sydney Orkisz and Brooklyn Watkins assisting. Croft added a powerplay goal just a few minutes later with helpers from Dylan Hubbard and Brooklyn Watkins. Emma Shore tacked on a marker with Grace Dodgson assisting to extend the lead. Mallory Collins completed the offensive explosion with a powerplay goal once again set up by Grace Dodgson. CUAA led 4-0 after the first period.
Lauren Benoit won the opening faceoff in the second period. The Cardinals continued to attack the net with Grace Dodgson firing several promising shots. CUAA killed off four penalties and maintained a 4-0 lead after two periods.
Both teams traded powerplay chances in the third period. Rose Lennon remained solid in net and the Cardinals claimed a 4-0 shutout as time expired.
Concordia will host Rhode Island again tomorrow at 4:30pm.
