Crusaders defeat Cardinals 3-1 on senior day

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer hosted Madonna on Wednesday afternoon in WHAC conference play.  The Cardinals came in 5-3 overall (5-2 WHAC) while the Crusaders entered 3-2 overall (3-1 WHAC).  At halftime, CUAA honored their two senior team members: Samantha Golchuk and Sophia Bell.  CUAA tied the game 1-1 with a goal in the 20th minute, but Madonna eventually pulled away for a 3-1 win.

 

Anna Roman started in goal for Concordia, making 9 saves.  Roman was tested early making multiple saves as Madonna attacked the Cardinals' net.  Megan Starkey took the first shot on net for CUAA, but Madonna struck first in the 17th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  Samantha Golchuk tied the game just over 3 minutes later, taking a through ball from Kendra Lewis and dribbling to the outside to beat her defender.  However, the Crusaders scored in the 39th minute take a 2-1 lead into halftime.

 

Madonna continued on the attack in the second half with Anna Roman making 3 saves in the first 15 minutes.  Hayley Jacobson came into play goalie in the 66th minute, notching 3 saves in the contest.  A shot by Mackenzie Rahn was saved by the Crusaders' keeper, but Madonna scored again to take a 2-goal lead.  The Cardinals threatened later in the half on a corner kick by Kendra Lewis, but the Crusader defense held and CUAA fell 3-1.

 

Concordia will play next on Friday, March 26 when they host Aquinas at 12pm.
