Cardinals comeback fall short against LTU, 2-1

(Southfield, MI) – Concordia women's soccer wrapped up fall play on Saturday evening with a night game against Lawrence Tech.  The Cardinals came into the tilt 3-1 overall while the Blue Devils entered 3-0-1.  CUAA mounted a late comeback effort after falling behind 2-0, but Lawrence Tech held on to secure the win.

 

Hayley Jacobson started in goal for Concordia, making 4 saves in the game.  Lawrence Tech got on the board quickly with a goal in the 4th minute.  Samantha Golchuk took the first shot on goal for the Cardinals and Kendra Lewis took a pair of corner kicks.  Isabel Stropich fired a powerful shot that curved wide of the net, but CUAA trailed 1-0 at halftime.

 

The Concordia offense continued to generate opportunities with corner kicks, but the Blue Devils scored in the 56th minute to extend their lead.  The Cardinals continued to mount a comeback effort with Samantha Putnam ringing a shot off the crossbar.  CUAA kept up the pressure and converted in the 79th minute when Kiera Savage scored on a header in traffic off an Isabel Stropich corner kick.  While Concordia made several runs into Lawrence Tech territory in the final minutes, the Blue Devils held on for the 2-1 win.

 

 

Concordia concludes their fall season and will now begin preparations for the spring portion of their schedule. More details regarding the fall schedule will be released soon.
