Lewis' golden goal lifts Cardinals over Indiana Tech, 2-1

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia women's soccer traveled to Indiana Tech on Wednesday night to continue WHAC conference play.  The Cardinals entered 3-3 overall while the Warriors came in 2-6.  CUAA overcame an early 1-0 deficit with two goals from Kendra Lewis to secure a 2-1 victory in overtime.

 

Anna Roman started in goal for Concordia in the first half.  The Cardinals stayed on the attack early with Samantha Golchuk ringing a shot off the crossbar.  However, Indiana Tech struck first with a goal in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead.  Kendra Lewis took multiple shots on goal and Hannah Smigielski had two shots late in the half, but CUAA trailed 1-0 at halftime.

 

Hayley Jacobson came into play goalie in the 2nd half, making 5 total saves.  Concordia stayed on the attack and tied the game in the 57th minute when Kendra Lewis jammed in a goal in front of the net.  The Cardinals remained alert on defense with Hayley Jacobson making two critical saves in the final minutes.  Despite a chance in the final seconds on a Kendra Lewis corner kick, the game headed to overtime.

 

Concordia survived an early attack by Indiana Tech at the start of the overtime frame.  The Cardinals eventually counterattacked and clinched the game in the 97th minute.  After multiple passes and solid ball movement, Kendra Lewis found an opening and buried the game-winner for a 2-1 win.

 

Concordia will play their next game at UNOH on Tuesday, March 9 at 10:30am.
